Big Sample Interpolations this week
I've gotten a couple big calls this past week for sample recreations and interpolations. Just Blaze called this past week to have me interpolate a placeholder sample for a song with Saigon featuring Jay Z. As with everything Just Blaze does, the production is sick. That boy is so ridiculously talented its scarey. By the way, an interpolation is basically like being inspired by hearing something and creating a fresh piece of music that reminds you of that other piece of music. I'd say car commercials are a good place to hear stuff like this. How many times have you heard the music in a commerical and said "Man that totally reminds me of XYZ's song". Anyway, the other call this week came from Kanye West who's producing the new Common album. I am interpolating a couple cool things for him for the album. I'm basically done with both projects now, just a couple little touches to do i'm sure then they are off my plate. Today i'm mixing a KILLER song from a rock band called "Earl Greyhound" (love that name, both of my dogs are Greyhounds). This band is like throwing Zepplin and old Lenny Kravitz into a 2007 timewarp blender and out pops Earl Greyhound. Theres a ton of buzz surrounding this band and this song, you might be seeing and hearing them on MTV2 and the radio very soon! Oh and i finished that Trey Mills song "Saving Me" that i mentioned last week. WOW! what an awesome song, if Trey posts it i'll link it. I'm also in the middle of mixing rapper Ben Franklin from Detroit, and roots rocker Yves Jean from Pittsburg. Many more projects happening but thats a taste. Back to work for me, I've got rock to mix. Unfortunately its an incredible day outside and i'd really like to drop the top and drive fast. Maybe i'll take a break before sunset and go get some italian ice. -Ken Lewis

In other good news, Glass Intrepid landed an opening slot for Fallout Boy which is some very exciting stuff! -Ken Lewis

REMIX Hotel NYC Sunday
So a great event called REMIX Hotel NYC is kicking off today (Friday). Its a 3 day event hosted by REMIX Magazine, of which i am a contributor. The event has alot of great panels as well as rooms filled with companies showing off their latest greatest gear, etc.. I will be on a Musicians Roundtable Panel on Sunday at 3pm to 4pm. There are some true heavyweight musicians on this panel (like Vernon Reid), who i'm sure far outclass me in musical chops. I'll be able to bring my own perspectives, experience and knowledge to the panel, so i'm not worried, more like honored to be sharing a panel with these guys. If your anywhere near NYC this weekend, REMIX Hotel is not to be missed!! Come introduce yourself if your around, i'm a very approachable guy and i'm there to help spread knowledge. -Ken Lewis Labels: REMIX

Trey Mills Mix and other randomness
Howdy, I'm currently mixing a song from producer / artist Trey Mills right now called "Saving Me". Beautiful song (think along the lines of Snow Patrol), full band with full string section and Trey's captivating voice. I believe this is his debut song as an artist and this one should launch him out of the gates. I'll try to post an MP3 once its released. you can check out Trey at TREY MILLSSo, i finished that 106 track mix of the Czarina song. Czarina and her producer LOVED the mix (thank god!!!) and they are sending more songs soon. I'm looking forward to another battle royal :-) I'm also producing another song for this icelandic artist BMV called "Forget About Me", which is coming out super nice Keep voting for Man On Earth!! Wow, i am in a Battle Royal right now mixing a song with 106 tracks!!!!! Holy Cow!!!! Actually the mix is coming along really great (i think). right now i think its just a test of patience and persistence as thats just so much to sort out, find a place for, and make it sound like a record. Fortunately the music and vocals were done very well. I've certainly done many 100+ track mixes in my career, this is one of them. Just wanted to share :-) Oh, by the way, the artist is named Czarina (her real and very cool name). She's from Australia. you can check her out at....
