FlomFest attracts "Serious Label Interest"
Anyone heard of Jason Flom? If not, go Google him, you should know who he is and what he's helped contribute to the music industry. Tonight, he helped contribute to charity with his annual "FlomFest" to raise money for www.LIFTonline.org, a very worthy cause. This wasn't JUST any charity event though, it featured a who's who of music industry geniuses with a twist. 4 of them were rocking out on stage in their band comically titled "Serious Label Interest". I assure you this band isn't getting a record deal any time soon. However, collectively they've been a part of hundreds of them.
The band was drummer Andy Karp, who runs Lava (Atlantic) records, home of Matchbox 20, Kid Rock, Simple Plan and Bif Naked (who joined them for a song). Guitarist Peter Zizzo, an extraordinary producer/songwriter responsible for discovering Avril Lavigne and Vanessa Carlton among others. Also two heavyweight music lawyers (actually both pretty skinny) Ron Bienstock on bass, and Todd Rubenstein on vocals. They played 70's classic rock covers and were all dressed incognito, complete with wigs and spandex. SEXY. It was a great excuse to get out of the studio and have a couple beers, and I did. It was nice to see some of my friends out there as well. A couple people I had not seen in ages. Definitely worthy of mention, Ric Aliberte organized and MC'd the evening, and Jason Flom matched dollar for dollar every donation on the night. What a great guy. I hope some day I earn enough to donate large amounts of money to charity. I definitely do what I can but I'm no philanthropist……… yet.
I got to hang out with Bif Naked (she was fully clothed) after the show. She is a very sweet, very down to earth, very talented rock star. (yes, she's really hot too, not that I noticed personally, but somebody told me later). Keep an eye out for her new album coming in a few months. Its done, I heard the first single. It rocks. Good luck Bif. I must get back to work. These records won't mix themselves.
