Music to 640 Million ears (wait that's 1.3 billion ears, 2 per person)

My nominations (and wins) were beyond the next level of cool. But what made the night storybook for me was something set in motion early in the week. Last Monday, Kanye called to see if i could put together a musical interlude for his live Grammy performance of Jesus Walks. It was 10am, i had been asleep for 3 hours when i got the call, and surely thought i was still dreaming. Nope. 2 hours later, i was composing and orchestrating the interlude. Kanye came in, we talked briefly about what he wanted. He hummed me a simple melody line and left. I spent the day creating music.

OK, for those with TIVO, rewind (i'll also try to post a clip of it here as well). During Jesus Walks, where Kanye dances in the light behind the white cloth, you'll hear a screeching car crash then about a 12 second orchestral interlude. That was me, the Ken Lewis Orchestra.

OK, so it was only 12 seconds, but it was all mine. Well, mine and 1.3 billion other ears who were listening. The head of the Grammy event gave a speech near the close of the show saying the Grammy's were televised in 179 countries to over 640 MILLION people. I had no idea. So i just used up 12 seconds of my fifteen minutes of fame. It was worth every millisecond. Never in my wildest dreams did i ever think I'd compose and perform music for the Grammy Awards. Even if it was only 12 seconds. 2005 is quickly shaping up to be a banner year.
